Nautilus International helped to open trading at the London Stock Exchange at an event which marked the start of the third London International Shipping Week 2017 (LISW) – a week of events celebrating London and the UK as a global maritime centre.
Nautilus assistant general secretary Olu Tunde was among a select group of maritime VIPs who joined shipping minister John Hayes to 'press the button' to start the day's trading.
It was a privilege to be at the official opening of the London Stock Exchange and celebrate the start of London International Shipping Week. Nautlus assistant general secretary, Olu Tunde
Nautilus has created a handy video guide to its participation at LISW.
'As the minister said after the opening, "people want to do business with people", and we hope that across the week maritime representatives attending all the LISW events remember that seafarers are at the heart of the success of the maritime industry.'
Nautilus is playing a key part in many of the 160 events during LISW, and is working with the Chamber of Shipping and the Merchant Navy Training Board to jointly stage a 'So Where Are the Jobs' seminar on Tuesday 12 September. This will addresses the latest challenges in seafarer employment and training, how the nation can help secure the future of the UK maritime sector and deliver opportunities for seafarers.
Following the seminar, Nautilus will be running a CV surgery aimed at maritime professionals seeking advice and career progression. Individuals in the sector can submit their CVs to Nautilus's professional and technical department for bespoke, tailored advice on employment opportunities in the maritime and shipping industry.
General secretary Mark Dickinson will also take part in the flagship LISW conference on Thursday 14 September, in a session which will examine how changing trade patterns and disruptive technologies will affect seafarers and maritime skills.
