As the 2020 RHS Chelsea Flower show goes virtual due to the Covid-19 pandemic, gardeners looking for plant inspiration are reminded they can still buy the new variety of rose developed for maritime welfare charity Stella Maris.
The special rose variety marks the charity's centenary year and will raise funds for seafarer support worldwide and can be bought from World of Roses.
The Stella Maris Centenary Rose was launched in April, but it can now also be purchased and delivered in Europe to any EU country. There is the additional option for a corporate package which will bring a greater contribution to Apostleship of the Sea – Stella Maris.
The rose was developed with the industry volunteer group Container Shipping Supporting Seafarers (CSSS). Each purchase of the fragrant yellow flower at World of Roses will include a donation to Stella Maris.
Martin Foley, CEO of Stella Maris said: 'Stella Maris is very grateful to the World of Roses and CSSS for this wonderfully innovative initiative to raise valuable funds for our vital work in support of seafarers and their families.'
Stella Maris was founded in Glasgow in 1920 and is now best known internationally as the Stella Maris network, providing care to all seafarers regardless of nationality, race or faith. The network operates the single largest ship visiting system in the world, with more than 1,000 chaplains and volunteers in nearly 350 ports, visiting over 70,000 ships and reaching more than 1,000,000 seafarers annually.
